Camping has always been a favorite activity for Girl Scouts. Our earliest records show that girls camped soon after their first troop meetings.  Resident camps began as early as 1917 here in the Nation's capital area, Camp Bradley was at the military camp Ft. Mead in Magnolia,  MD.  It was named after Gen. Bradley, who was quite helpful in getting permission for the use of the camp.
Rockwood National Center,  now Rockwood Manor Park Montgomery County, MD,  The property was willed to the Girls Scouts (national) in 1936. It is no longer owned by GSUSA but maintained by the Maryland Parks and Planning Commission since 1979 (History) 

Camp Aquasco Farm, Aquasco, MD, Current Troop and day camp. In 1974, the property was acquired in a land swap for the former Camp Plato Place property in Forestville, MD, 1st work week-end was October 1978 and the first campfire was lit at the First Fall Encampment in 1979   (History) (GSCNC current site)

Camp Bay Breeze, Lusby, MD..Former resident camp. Sold in October 1974 to State of Maryland, it is now part of Calvert Cliffs State Park.  On the banks of the Chesapeak Bay in an area famous for fossil and marine study.  Units were Chippewa ( 8 platform tents), Mahogalite( 8 platform tents) and Whispering Pines( 9 platform tents). Camp Bradley, One of the first resident camps in the DC area was outside Magnolia (near Ft. Meade), MD (1917 -  1926).  The loan of the site with kitchen, tents, waterfront and playing fields was arranged by General Omar Bradley, thus was it named in his honor.

Camp Brighton Woods In Howard County Maryland Acquired in 1958 by the Washington DC Girl Scout Council. (History)   (GSCNC current site)

Camp Civitan,  Olney, MD. Former camp was 10 acres off Owens Road.   Units: Hazel Marmer ( 4 Platform tents), Poplar Glen (Tent Pitching),  sites Crow's Nest, Shady Valley, Turtle Bend, Chickadee, Brookside and Fox Hill. (Do you know more)

Camp Coles Trip, Stafford, VA. Opened as the resident camp for the Northern Virginia Girl Scout Council in 1956.  It is now a GSCNC troop & resident camp. Units are Aquai Lodge, Arrowhead Lodge, Forest Hideaway, Sunse Hills, Ridge, Pioneer, Holly Ridge, Happiness(History)   

Camp Conestoga, Greenbelt Park, MD. Former camp was off Goodluck Road. Tenting sites:  Pine Tree, Twin Oaks, Sweet Gum, Pine Ridge. Sites Blueberry Path, Knutty Knoll, Laurel, Great Oak. (History)

Camp Cosoma, Callaway, St. Mary's County, MD. Former camp was10 acres tent pitching and day areas - primitive.  (Do you know more)

Camp Crowell, Oakton, VA .Day and Overnight camp first acquired by the Fairfax GS Council is still an active camp. (History)

Camp Ft. Hunt, Alexandria, VA. Current day camp at Ft. Hunt Park, near Mt. Vernon  and part of the George Washington National Parkway system originally a Farfaix GS DAmp camp. (History

Camp Holland Acres, Centerville, VA, 20 acres between Braddock Road, Lee Highway and Union Mill Road. Stegman Lodge, Indian Pipes, Skyview, Holly, Pine Hill (Tent pitching units) Rock Ridge, Stone Run and Slope (day use sites). Sold in September 1973, it is now a large housing development. (Do you know more)

Camp May Flather, Mt. Solon, Virginia. 1930 - Current resident camp.  CMF was the resident camp for National Capital Girl Scout Council which merged to form GSCNC in 1963.Mt. Solon, VA.(History)

Camp MaWaVi, Triangle, Va. 1940 - 19-50  Current NPS group cabin camp.  Arlington Girl Scout Council first leased this new ly built CCC camp until WWII required that they find a new camp.  (History)  

Camp Misty Mount,  Catoctin Mountain, Thurmont, MD, Former camp in the 1940's to late 1970's.  The property was the resident camp from 1he 1940's for Southern Maryland Girl Scout Council which merged to form GSCNC in 1963.  In preparation for the 1978 Egypt -Israeli Peace conference at Camp David property adjoining Camp David was reclaimed by National Park Service.  The camp is still use as a camp and may be reserved by visitng http://www.nps.gov/cato/recr/misty.htm  (History)

Camp Moss Ridge, Paris, Clarke Co, VA.  Former Camp off Rte. 606.  Short distance from the Appalachain Trail.  Lodge, "fireplace, hand pump water down the hill, no electricity" and three primitive areas for tent camping.(Do you know more)

Camp Mantoaka,  Early Girl Scout resident camp on the Chesapeak Bay on the westen shore of Maryland (History)

Camp Moyaone, Accokeek, MD off Bryan's Point Rd. 10 acres Primitive on the Potomac River.  Primitive meadow tent camping "Troops must bring drinking water." (Do you know more)

Camp Plato Place, Forestville, MD. Former camp in Prince Georges County off Barry Lane. Lake Cabin (Log cabin with cement floor), Turtle Hollow, Tenting area were Iris, Pipsisswea and Bird House.. This property was exchanged for Aquasco Farm, now know as Camp Aquasco (History)

Camp Potomac Woods, Lucketts, VA, Former camp was owned by the Arlington Girl Scout Council which merged to form GSCNC in 1963. In Loudoun Co north of Route 15 on the Potomac River. (History)  

Camp Tapawingo,  VA, Former camp was owned by the Alexandria Girl Scout Council which merged to form GSCNC in 1963(Do you know more)

Camp Tuckerman, Rockville Maryland. Current Day camp off Tuckerman Lane. (History) ,


Camp White Rock, West Virginia First acquired in 1952 by the then Winchester Girl Scout Council, transferred to Shawnee GS Council in 1963 and now GSCNC in 2009,  White Rock consists of five units, Pioneer, Sherwood, Dogwood, Bluff and Hemlock.  (History)

Camp Winona, Hughesville, MD 
Known as the "Hughesville Camp in 1954, , when it was purchased as a resident camp by the Prince Georges [MD] Girl Scout Council, then was the resident camp for Southern Maryland GSC and joind GSCNC in 1962. (History)
